Mike Conway and the No. 14 Lexus RC F GT3 will start the 2023 Rolex 24 at Daytona from 3rd place in the GTD Pro class after Ben Barnicoat secured the team their starting position in yesterday's qualifying session at Roar Before the Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway.
Joining Lexus factory drivers Jack Hawksworth and Ben Barnicoat for the Rolex 24 at Daytona, Mike got his first taste of GT3 machinery on Saturday when he ran in the day's practice sessions for the Vasser Sullivan team.
Despite his lack of experience in the Lexus RC F GT3, Mike was already on the pace as he set the team's fastest time as they finished 3rd in Practice 3. Mike's impressive lap time finished as the 6th fastest of all 32 drivers in the GTD Pro class across the six practice sessions - with teammate Ben Barnicoat setting the fastest lap across the six sessions.
Ben Barnicoat was elected for qualifying duties and secured a 3rd place starting position for the team in the GTD Pro class. Race week in Daytona sees the first of four practice sessiond take place on Thursday at 11:05 (ET), with the 61st Rolex 24 At Daytona set to take the green flag at 13:40 on Saturday.
Mike Conway:“It's been great working with the Vasser Sullivan and Lexus Racing USA team this week, they've done a brilliant job with the car as we've been quick all the way through practice and in qualifying. Ben did a great job securing us P3 for the start, and the whole team has been fantastic in helping me get up to speed as quickly as possible. We have a few more practice sessions this week before the race gets underway on Saturday, so there's still more for me to learn before the green flag drops on Saturday."
