Mike Conway heads to Portugal this weekend where he will resume his FIA World Endurance Championship campaign with TOYOTA GAZOO Racing at Algarve International Circuit for the 6 Hours of Portimão.
Mike Conway and TOYOTA GAZOO Racing will be looking for to repeat the performance that they showed in the season opening 1000 Miles of Sebring, where the team asserted their dominance to achieve a 1-2 finish in a packed Hypercar field.
It was the #7 TOYOTA GAZOO Racing car which clinched a vital victory which sees Mike at the top of the driver standings alongside teammates Kamui Kobayashi and José María López as they head to the Portugal for the second round.
After the opening round at Sebring, the WEC schedule now takes a European focus as the teams begin their preparation towards the Le Mans 24 Hours, starting in Portimáo this weekend before heading to Belgium at the end of the month for the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.
The action in Portimão gets underway from 10:30am on Friday, when the drivers and teams will have two 90 minute practice sessions to fine-tune the settings of the GR010 HYBRID's, as well as test the various tyre compounds. The grid order will be decided by a 15 minute qualifying session at 4:20pm on Saturday, with the race commencing at midday day local time on Sunday.
Mike Conway:
"It was great to start the season with a win in Sebring after a really strong team performance, and we want to keep that momentum going at Portimão. We know the track pretty well as we’ve tested there a lot over the years, and we raced there with the GR010 HYBRID in 2021, but this year’s car and tyres are different. We don’t start from zero, because all that experience is still valuable, but we will have a busy day on Friday to update ourselves and adjust everything properly."
